Xu Xianming, male, Born in Laixi City, Shandong Province in April, 1957, Professor, J.D.
In 1975, started career by working in home village as production team leader and teacher in its middle school.
In 1978, enrolled in the Law Department of Jilin University, and received his LL.B and LL.M degrees subsequently.
In 1985, started teaching in Shandong University, and was promoted as an exception to associate professor in 1991 and professor in 1992. He has worked as leader of staff room, assistant to department head, department head, dean, assistant to the president, dean of graduate school and vice president. He received his J.D. from Wuhan University in 1999. In 1988-1989, 1997 and 1998 he went to Japan and the United States respectively for attending advanced studies. He was transferred to CUPL in September, 2001.
With respect to his academic research, Professor Xu has dedicated himself to far-ranging research in areas such as legal trends in modern and contemporary China, legal doctrines of the Chinese Communist Party, principles for the rule of law within a state, frontier issues in legal philosophy, theories on human rights, theories on constitutional administration and legal sociology. Hehas presided over 20 national or international cooperative projects, and his publications include eight academic works, noteworthy among them are He has also published as the editor in chief over 30 large sized series or textbooks of law such as andAmong his over 100 academic papers, works like published in have been translated into several foreign languages. The honorary titles he has received include: National Talents of the New Century (1994, by the Youth League Central Committee), the first and second groups for the National Project of Talents (1996, jointly by the Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education etc.), Talent of National Higher Education of the New Century (1998, by the Ministry of Education), Gainer of Preeminent Youth Found (1997, by Shandong Province), Top Specialist (1995, by Shandong Province) and one of the Top 10 theorists (1998, by Shandong Province).
Professor Xu Xianming is currently the Vice-President of the China Institute of Jurisprudence, Vice-President of the China Institute of Jurisprudence Education, Deputy-Director of the Teaching Supervision Committee of Jurisprudence Discipline of the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Chairman of American and Comparative Law Education Committee, and part-time professor of Peking University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Jilin University Shandong University and Party School of CPC Central committee. He has been the Executive Chairman of Chinese Law History Acad.
Concurrently Xu Xianming is also deputy to the 10th National People’s Congress (NPC) and Commissioner of the NPC Legal Commission, counselor of National Labor Union, counselor of the Supreme Court. He has been counselor of Shandong Provincial Government and Legislation Counselor of the standing committee of Shandong People’s Congress.
