The Institute of Globalization and Global Issues is newly established as a formal scientific research institute of CUPL. In 2007 the university decided to formally establish the institute of globalization and global issues of independent faculty on the basis its former informal form. Now the institute has a dozen full-time or part-time researchers engaged in different disciplines including politics, international relations, public management, law, economics, sociology and environment, with multi-discipline and integration feature. Its incumbent director is professor Cai Tuo, doctoral advisor and vice president of the international politics research association of Chinese higher education.
The purpose of the institute includes:
1. Study new challenges and new problems brought about by globalization and global issues to the social lives of mankind. Provide theoretical analysis and countermeasure consultation on transformation of human society development model, institutional innovation of public management and rebuilding of value.
2. Study the internal relations between globalization and global issues and china’s reform and opening-up, social transformation and modernization construction. Provide theoretical analysis and countermeasure consultation on realizing the grand goal of putting people first, peaceful development, constructing harmonious society and harmonious world.
3. Explore the theoretical study of politics and international relationship, promote the research of politics as a whole and establish an independent Global Study.
The institute of globalization and global issues is an open academic institute, which actively promotes and welcomes organizations, enterprises, public service agencies and individuals from both home and abroad to participate in the research of the institution or conduct different forms of cooperation on interested issues. It mainly relies on self-finance to conduct research besides financial support from organizations, enterprises, public service agencies and individuals from all parts of the world. The institute of globalization and global issues has both full-time and part-time staffs centering on project and stationed on the institute.
The institute (and its predecessor) has made significant achievements in the field of globalization and global issues. It has published many monographs including Contemporary Global Issues, Global issues and contemporary international relations, The Renovation of Global Governance and China’s Public Affairs Management, Globalization and the Transformation of Politics, Non- governmental Organizations in the Field of International Politics. The institute published dozens of dissertations such as Globalism and Stateism and The Chinese View on Global Governance and Its Practice on magazines like Chinese Social Science. With high academic value, social impact in depth, these achievements have won the recognition and affirmation from domestic academic circles. The research results of the institute have won awards three times in a row (the second, the third and the fourth) in the four competitions of Humanities and Social Science Achievements held by the Ministry of Education. The three academic propositions, namely overall politics, transformation from national politics to non national politics and nationalism in globalization are the leading guidance of its research as well as its core contents and persistent academic pursuit.
