At 7:00 p.m. of November 5th, the Maestro’s Forum sponsored by the Scientific Research Department and hosted by the Business School of CUPL was held in its Changping Campus. Upon invitation, Professor Shi Jinchuan, vice dean of the Economics School and director Economics Research Center of Zhejiang University, made a great speech entitled “You have the right to remain silent——an analysis of Miranda v. Arizona from the perspective of legal economics.” The forum was presided by Ma Li, vice dean of the Business School and attended by over 200 teachers and students. Before his speech, Professor Shi was met by Vice Precedent Zhang Baosheng of CUPL.

     To illustrate his speech, Professor Shi dwelled on a number of American famous law cases in support of the idea that from the view point of economics, there is economic efficiency underlying all different evidence standards coded by American law. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. And you have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present while you are being questioned. The speech was followed by a session of questions and answers, and was concluded in warm applause.
