vVice President Zhang Baosheng Spoke at the 8th Annual Forensic Science and Law Conference in U.S.

Upon special invitation, Vice President Zhang Baosheng, director of the Key Laboratory of Evidence Science (KLES), together with two other delegates Prof. Chang Lin and Wang Jinxi attended the 8th Annual Forensic Science and Law Conference in U.S. in between April 3rd and 5th, 2008,and delivered on the 4th a speech of 45 minutes in English on “The Emergence of Evidence Science Studies: the Experience of Forensic Science and Evidence Law in China”, which had been submitted to the conference as thesis. Having reviewed that the Evidence law studies has taken up an interdisciplinary trend and the study of evidence as a multi-disciplinary subject by Professor Twining and the systematic description of the concept "evidence science" by Professor Schum, then, Professor Zhang emphasizes that the research on evidence science in China has developed in a different way from that in the West. In December 2005, when the concept of evidence science was still being hotly debated, the establish of the Key Laboratory of Evidence Science (KLES),Ministry of Education (MoE), China has changed from being separation of evidence law and forensic science to being integration in the KLES. The KLES is known as the “Practical movement” in evidence science, it involves more in practice, not only integrate research, teaching and public service, but also takes the approach in seeking breakthroughs on the basis of combined study of forensic science and evidence law.
It is integration of the academic studies between natural science and social science, KLES consists of 30 forensic scientists and 10 professors in evidence law. It was said that China delegation was the only foreign delegation attended this conference.
